history
The first inhabitants who lived in this place were the Tagbanuas and Palawans. They preferred to occupy lands near the seashores for they love eating sea foods.
Trees, corn and rice were used as their birthmarks, one way to identify their age by comparing the plants they planted and the seasons they were born.
Their source of living was planting of rice and corn through “kaingin” and catching fish along the river banks and the seashores.
This place was abundant of different kind of shells and sea foods. Tagbanuas from Tagpait went to this place just to get different kind of shells for their food. They found out that the said shells were so abundant especially in the bottom of the river. Tagbanuas from Tagpait and Apo-aporawan as well as Tagbanuas from this place named it Tetigman which means “a certain kind of shell that is so delicious.” As time passed by, the word Tetigman was change, shortened and became “Tigman.”
