Barangay Iraan got its name from a certain tree species common to the place called “IRA”. It is a big tree abundantly found along the riverbanks. Early residents of Barangay Iraan called the place as Iraanen.

When the Americans came to Aborlan and heard the word Iraanen, they organized the inhabitants of the place and decided to change the name to Iraan. Thus up to the present the Barangay is called as Iraan.
