history
In the early days when Aborlan was still a bit far away from the capital town of Puerto Princesa, Palawan due to the absence of the national roads, there was no route from Aborlan to Tigman. People used seashore as their passage going back and forth to Aborlan. They consider Tigman as mother barrio and what is now Plaridel was once called Tigman interior.
This place became evacuation center during World War II. After the war, the influx of people increased and roads were constructed. The need for education and place to worship causes the Barrio Council to call a general assembly and they agreed to build a church with San Rafael as the Patron Saint, and called the place San Rafael in honor of the Patron of the place. The first Barrio Lieutenant was the late Mr. Hermogenes Lagrada.
After the establishment of the church they again assembled to talk about putting up a school. They drafted a resolution and request for the opening of school then presented it to their Division Superintendent.
The Division Superintendent gave an order and appointed Mrs. Pilar Peneyra to be the pioneer of the barrio. They associated the name Pilar with Marcelo H. del Pilar whose pen name is Plaridel. It was unanimously voted that the name of school would be Plaridel. After serious consideration, the Barrio Council drafted a resolution changing san Rafael to Plaridel.
Plaridel, entailed with greatness and heroism, produced countless citizens who are now having a key positions in the local government and in public and private office.
In this cosmopolitan Barangay, one can find a mixed culture of natives; these are Tagbanuas, Cuyunos, Illongos, Ilocanos and other migrants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Indeed, Plaridel cannot be neglected even as a Barangay for its populace will always be a part and a parcel of what it is today and will continues to achieve better goals and objectives for the success of its youth and the future generation to come.
